Erlin executes your selected prompts on Perplexity during signup and delivers initial visibility data within a few minutes. By the time you finish the onboarding survey and reach the dashboard, results are usually ready.

What happens during signup

When you click continue after selecting prompts, Erlin starts running them in the background. You do not need to wait or keep the page open. The scan runs on Perplexity and records whether your brand was mentioned, where it was ranked, what share of the answer was yours, whether your site was cited, and what tone was used. The scan typically completes within two to five minutes depending on how many prompts you selected (up to five).

What you see on the dashboard

When you land on the AI Visibility dashboard after signup, one of two things appears: If the scan is still running: a blue progress banner at the top shows “Setting up your AI visibility tracking” with a percentage. The banner disappears once all prompts finish. If the scan is complete: the dashboard populates with your initial data. The five metric cards show values based on your Perplexity results: Visibility Score, Citation Rate, Share of Voice, Average Position, and Sentiment. The Platform Breakdown table shows one row (Perplexity). The Competitor Leaderboard shows brands AI mentioned alongside yours. This is your baseline. One platform, one scan, up to five prompts. Enough to see where you stand and decide what to do next.

Why only Perplexity at first

Erlin runs your first scan on Perplexity only, for two reasons:
  1. Speed. One platform completes in minutes. Running every platform would take longer and delay your first look at the data.
  2. Citation richness. Perplexity always includes source references in its answers. That means your first scan produces Citation Rate and source-level data immediately, which ChatGPT and Claude do not always provide.
The other platforms come in when you run a full scan from the dashboard: ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, plus Google’s AI Overview and AI Mode on plans that include them.

Running a full scan across all platforms

To get the complete picture, run your prompts across every platform your plan includes. Open AI Visibility > Prompts > Tracking, select the prompts you want to run, and click Execute Selected. Erlin sends them to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude, and to Google’s AI Overview and AI Mode if your plan includes them. A full scan takes longer than the onboarding scan because it covers multiple platforms instead of one. Once complete, the Platform Breakdown table on the dashboard shows a row for each platform side by side, and your metric cards reflect the combined results.

What to do next

Three actions that build on your first scan: Add more prompts. Your first scan tracks up to five prompts. Open Prompt discovery to browse more suggestions from Erlin and expand your tracked set. Schedule recurring scans. Open Prompt tracking and use the Schedule dropdown to run scans automatically every 7, 14, or 30 days. This builds trend data over time without manual effort. Add competitors. Open your brand settings and add the competitors you want to benchmark against. Once added, they appear in the Competitor Leaderboard on your dashboard after the next scan.
