Prompts are the questions Erlin sends to AI platforms on every scan. Prompt tracking is where you add, organize, rerun, and schedule them. Every prompt in the Tracking tab runs on every scan and feeds into your AI Visibility dashboard.

What a prompt is

A prompt is a question your target audience might ask an AI assistant. For example:
  • “Best project management tool for remote teams”
  • “What CRM should a small business use?”
  • “How do I improve my brand’s presence in AI search?”
Erlin runs each tracked prompt on every platform your plan enables (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Google’s AI Overview and AI Mode), parses the full response, and stores the result. Those responses power your Visibility Score, Citation Rate, Share of Voice, Average Position, and Sentiment metrics. Good tracked prompts share three qualities:
  • Specific: they target a clear user intent, not a vague topic
  • Natural: they are phrased how a real person would ask AI
  • Relevant: they relate to your product or service category

Where to manage tracked prompts

Open AI Visibility > Prompts > Tracking in Erlin. You see a list of folders, each containing prompts. Expand a folder to see every prompt inside it, along with the latest visibility data, sentiment, and position for each one.

Folders

Folders group related prompts so you can filter the dashboard to a specific slice. Examples of useful folder structures:
  • By topic: “Product comparisons”, “How-to questions”, “Pricing queries”
  • By funnel stage: “Awareness”, “Consideration”, “Decision”
  • By competitor: “vs Competitor A”, “vs Competitor B”
  • By product line: “Enterprise features”, “Starter plan features”
Erlin automatically creates an All Prompts system folder that contains every tracked prompt. The AI Visibility dashboard reads from this folder by default. When you filter by a custom folder, the dashboard narrows to just those prompts. You can create, rename, and delete folders directly from the Tracking tab. Moving prompts between folders does not affect their scan data.

Adding prompts

Three ways to add prompts to your tracked set:
  1. From Prompt Discovery: browse Erlin’s generated suggestions in the Library tab, pick the ones relevant to your brand, and execute them. They move into Tracking automatically on first run.
  2. Upload in bulk: use the upload flow in the page header to import a CSV of prompts at once.
  3. Type directly: add a custom prompt using the input form.
After adding prompts, they will not have data until the next scan runs. Either trigger a manual scan or wait for the next scheduled auto-execution.

Running and re-running prompts

Every scan runs all tracked prompts across all enabled platforms. You can also target individual prompts or specific subsets without waiting for the next full cycle. Re-run a single prompt. Click the rerun icon on any prompt row. Erlin sends that prompt to all enabled platforms immediately and updates its metrics within seconds. Use this when you have published new content and want to test whether it affected a specific question. Bulk re-run. Check multiple prompts using the row checkboxes, then click Execute Selected in the page header. Erlin runs all selected prompts in one batch. A progress banner shows above the table while execution runs, and results update in the table row by row as each platform completes.

Scheduling recurring scans

Instead of running prompts manually, set Erlin to scan automatically on a schedule. The Schedule dropdown is in the page header next to the refresh button.

Open the Schedule dropdown

Click the Schedule button in the Prompts page header (the calendar clock icon).

Pick an interval

Choose how often Erlin should run all tracked prompts: every 7, 14, or 30 days.

Confirm

Erlin saves the schedule immediately. A green dot appears on the button confirming it is active. The dropdown shows the exact date and time of the next scheduled run.
When a scheduled scan completes, Erlin recalculates the full dashboard and triggers the citation analysis pipeline. You receive a notification (in-app, email, or Slack depending on your notification settings). To turn off automatic scanning, reopen the dropdown and select Turn off schedule.
Auto-execution runs all tracked prompts on every enabled platform. Each prompt on each platform uses one credit. If your plan does not have enough credits when the schedule fires, the run is skipped and you receive a notification explaining why.

Exporting visibility reports

Click the Visibility Report button in the page header to export your prompt-level results. Available formats:
  • CSV: a flat file with every prompt, its folder, platform-level metrics, and trend data
  • Excel: same data, formatted with headers for easy sharing
The export includes prompt text, folder name, per-platform visibility scores, overall visibility, citation rate, share of voice, average position, and sentiment. Useful for sharing with stakeholders who do not log in to Erlin.

Languages

Erlin generates and runs prompts in the language you choose. The language selector in the page header sets the preference per website. Change it to match the language your customers use when asking AI questions. If you serve multiple markets, create separate prompt folders for each language and track them independently.
